Martínez Nieto S.A. Joins the 2023 Earth Hour Movement
- The laboratory is once again joining this global movement against climate change, which will take place on Saturday, March 25
- In addition to turning off the lights, MARNYS participates in the #AroundThePlanet challenge and adds #KMPorelplaneta
- The company has the Corporate Social Responsibility program ‘MARNYS Planet’, with energy saving and emission reduction plans
For the third consecutive year, the natural dietary supplements and skincare laboratory MARNYS – Martínez Nieto S.A. is joining the global initiative ‘Earth Hour’, promoted by the non-profit organization WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), which will take place this year on March 25th, at 8:30 pm.
The objective of this action, which consists of symbolically turning off lights for 60 minutes, is to raise awareness about the importance of adopting sustainability and energy-saving measures. Thus, MARNYS will turn off all lights, signs, and electronic devices in their offices, located in the Camachos Industrial Estate in Cartagena, for one hour.
In addition, the company will participate for the second consecutive year in the #AroundThePlanet sports challenge and join #KMPorelplaneta. This challenge involves “circling the planet”, adding up the 40,000 km of the Earth’s circumference among all participants to demonstrate that winning the race against global warming is a team effort.
Since nature conservation and sports are two pillars of MARNYS, the company’s team has achieved a place among the top 10 companies leading the ranking.
According to Lourdes López, from MARNYS’ Corporate Social Responsibility department, “participating in ‘Earth Hour’ aligns with the principles and values of our company, where we work every day to be a sustainable company, in line with the goals of the United Nations’ 2030 agenda.”
MARNYS Planet, Our Commitment to the Environment
Respecting the environment and promoting sustainable development is one of the pillars of MARNYS. Within its Corporate Responsibility Plan, the dietary supplements laboratory has the program ‘MARNYS Planet’, through which they have reduced energy consumption and CO2 emissions by 36% in recent years.
This has been achieved through measures such as the installation of one of the largest self-consumption photovoltaic plants in the Murcia region, which avoids the annual emission of about 40 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Additionally, they have an Environmental Management System with continuous improvements in various areas such as natural light utilization, lighting, air conditioning, and insulation enhancements. These measures have also allowed them to achieve the Class A Energy Efficiency Certificate in their facilities.
These actions are complemented by their sustainable shipping plan, which includes plastic reduction, the use of recycled packaging materials, and carbon-neutral shipments by calculating the carbon footprint generated in each shipment and offsetting the CO2 through United Nations-certified environmental protection projects.
“All these company initiatives are included in our Sustainability Reports, which we have been publishing since 2019, and they embody our commitment to people and the planet,” adds Lourdes López.
